Description

Preparing for the Future: Educating for Uncertainty & Complexity in Medicine

Levels of doctor burnout are soaring, and medical students have a higher prevalence of mental health issues than their non-medical peers. Yet they are less likely to seek help. How can medical schools better prepare the next generation of doctors for the realities of practicing in an increasingly challenging, complex and uncertain world?

We are inviting teachers from all UK medical schools. At our previous symposia most of them have been represented. This year’s focus will be on educating for uncertainty, complexity and loss, with a focus on how undergraduate educators are responding to these issues which have become so much part of everyday practice. We will include student and junior doctor presentations, hold a poster competition and be awarding an essay prize. We will as usual have a graphic recording of the day
