The global scale, complexity and urgency of climate change is changing the way we live and inevitably, the way we do research. From the types of data we collect, to the methods we used and the way we communicate them to the world. This is why, at the ISEE European Chapter we have put together a series of 3 webinars that will address each of these aspects and provide resources to better equip researchers to continue fighting climate change.

In this final seminar, we will be exploring 'New communication tools' accompanied by three themes depciting the Power of Maps, the Power of Mulitmedia and the Power of Words. Here, a snapshot of what they have ready for us!

POWER OF MAPS | 'Atlas of the Invisible': a behind the scenes

This talk will share the process behind the construction of several climate maps and graphics that were created for the book Atlas of the Invisible. In doing so it will demonstrate important considerations for conveying complex data in a compelling way and reflect on the role that good data visualization can play when communicating scientific research to a wide audience.

POWER OF WORDS | Strengthening the health co-benefits message in EU climate policy deliberations

The evidence base on how climate mitigation will lead to health improvements has steadily increased in the past years. However, in public and policy discussions on mitigation measures to implement the landmark Paris Agreement and keeping climate heating to 1.5 degrees, the health angle is often missing. The presentation will share some recent materials from the non-governmental health sector, for a discussion on how the “health message” can help to increase the level of ambition in decision-making.
