About this event

Unity Does MAATer - Summer Holiday Edutainment Programme

Description

Each One, Reach One, Teach One. Educational Event not to be missed

(Limited number of places available, please note that to guarantee a place for this event you have to book a place online).

During the 4 days our young people get to learn and explore their heritage, celebrate their origins, creation of stem and our presence in the UK before and after the Windrush.

When our children know about their history, they preform better at school because they develop a sense of identity, love of self and confidence. Our children need to feel extra proud during Black History month.

Monday 25 October 21 - Who was here more than 10,000 years ago?

Young people will learn about the beginnings of civilisation, the power of melanin, celebrate our hair and our connection to nature.

Tuesday 26 October 21 - What did we create?

Young people will learn about the origins of STEM by raising their awareness of our Pharaoh Imhotep and other ancient contributors. We introduce the different collections of papyri taken from ancient Egypt as evidence of our brilliance.

Wednesday 27 October 21 - Was there a presence of Black people before Windrush?

Our young people will learn about our presence in the UK before and after the Windrush.

Thursday 28 October 21 - Who are our local Heroes and Sheroes in Leeds?

Our young people will leave this sessions with a fresh view of Black contributions here in Leeds.
