Lochaber Environemental Group 4 Week Bike Mainteance Course
Ran by the Fort William Bike Shed, in these workshops (4x2hr) you will learn the basics of bike maintenance in a fully hands on manner. The sessions will include:
Week 1: An Introduction - Essential supplies, use of tools, caring for your bike, safety checking your bike, removing wheels, replacing innertubes and puncture repair.
Week 2: Brakes - Learn how to check and change your brake pads, change your brake cables and how to set up your brakes effectively. Introduction to hydraulic brake bleed (time permitting)
Week 3: Drivetrain - Learn how to check for wear and tear on your drivetrain and when to replace parts. Replacing a chain. Indexing gears and common issues such as bent derailleur hangers.
Week 4: Bearings - We will look at the many bearing fitted parts such as wheels, headsets and bottom brackets. Learn how to adjust your headset, grease your hubs and spot wear and tear in all bearings.
