Research Symposium

This event presents results from our ESRC-funded study Contemporary Long-Term Homicide Trends in England and Wales (1977–2019), and will take place at the RSA, London, on 22nd September 2025, 10:00–13:00.

It will also mark the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Homicide, and consider evidence from the charity Support After Murder and Manslaughter (SAMM). It will bring together academics, policymakers, commissioners, and NGOs to reflect on what four decades of homicide data reveal about lethal violence and its social and political context, while highlighting the experiences and needs of those most directly affected.

The programme will include:

  • A short film premiere (Lives Disrupted: 40 Years of Violence and Change)
  • Findings from our study (Dr Emily Gray, Prof Stephen Farrall, Prof Andromachi Tseloni)
  • Contributions from Claire Waxman OBE (Victims’ Commissioner for London), Dame Nicole Jacobs (Domestic Abuse Commissioner), Prof Paul Rock (LSE), Dr Lauren Bradford-Clarke (Nottingham).
  • Audience Q&A and discussion
  • Networking lunch

Attendance is free, but places are limited.

A small number of travel bursaries are available to support those who might otherwise find it difficult to attend, please contact emily.gray@warwick.ac.uk
