Part botanical workshop, part flavour exploration, Wild Alchemy Sessions will explore our roots back to nature, our ancestry of foraging for food and medicine, tuning into the seasons and getting into a rhythm of picking, preserving and herbal preparations.
Alchemy is the ancient practice of extracting elements from within nature and transforming them for the benefit of body and mind. It is rooted in an understanding of the subtle energetics of our dynamic universe. We will investigate the ways in which we need to nourish and preserve this living vitality in our ingredients and connect back to our food source.

More about the magic behind Mama Xanadu

A few years ago, writer Jemma Foster took on a 42ft narrowboat in a poor state of repair and christened it Xanadu after the stately-pleasure dome of Coleridge's poem Kubla Khan.

The interior was redesigned using predominantly salvaged pieces, in keeping with the boat's original creation from recycled cargo containers in the 1980s. The result was a church pew for a work surface, a writing desk as a cutlery draw and cups dangling from ski poles & deer antlers. An untrained but instinctual cook, Jemma invited friends for dinner to sit on folding cinema seats around a converted ironing board and Mama Xanadu was born.

Since then, Jemma has been deepening her exploration into plant medicine & anthropology, using food as a medium for telling stories.
