Join us to celebrate the launch of the finale of our work to rewrite the story of dementia in a publishing world first!

4,4,4&2, the finale of our work to rewrite the story of dementia, launches in Edinburgh this September – and we’d love to see you at the celebrations for this publishing world first. Printed using an innovative disappearing ink to mimic the physical degeneration of the brain which can take place during the dementia journey, 4,4,4&2 maps the life of Maggie Watson – our close collaborator and dear friend, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia in 2021. A ‘living cookbook,’ the publication walks readers through early childhood recipes, savoury dinners, shared bakes and treasured family hand-me-downs – using the medium of cooking to not only share the standout recipes from a life very well eaten, but also to map the effects of a dementia diagnosis on an individual, and those they share their life with.

Made possible thanks to the kind support of Custom Lane and the Culture & Business Fund, 4,4,4&2 launches across a week with a full exhibition and weekend of activity – kickstarted with the book launch and exhibition opening on the 16th. 4,4,4&2: The exhibition opens to the public on the 17th, and is on view until 1pm on the 21st. Free and open to all, stop by to see behind the scenes of this groundbreaking publication, watch ink disappear in real time and learn the true story of the dementia journey.
