Our Vision:

The UK Animal Law Conference is the nation’s definitive meeting place for academics, lawyers, NGOs, and students working toward full protection for animals in the UK’s law and internationally. As such, the conference aims are:

- Educating one another about the national and international legal landscape for animals, the latest research, and recent updates on law, policy, and education.

- Network building to bridge the gaps between academics, lawyers, NGOs, and students interested in animal law in order to enhance the impact of work toward full protection for animals in law.

- Collaborating to generate new ideas, identify synergies, and share good practice toward better legal futures for animals.

The scope of the conference encompasses animal law, ethics, policy, and education. The conference encompasses the full range of animal law issues, also covering animal law’s interaction with environmental law, international trade law, and more.

Format

The conference will be held in person with some presentations given via interactive web-conferencing.

Tickets

Various ticket types are available to accommodate a diverse range of attendees. You may purchase a single day or two-day ticket. You may choose to purchase a conference dinner ticket as an add-on. Students, ALAW members, and in-person presenters benefit from a discounted price for all ticket types. Research students are reminded to enquire with their university regarding travel funding schemes which may facilitate their attendance.

For delegates resident in low- and middle-income countries eligible for the Research4Life scheme (Group A and B) and who are not A-LAW members or presenters, we would invite you to apply for a discounted rate by emailing tiffany.mitchell@alaw.org.uk.

Venue

The conference is hosted in the Curzon Building at the Birmingham City University central campus. Directions are available here. The Curzon building is fully wheelchair accessible via ramps and lifts, with accessible bathrooms on site. Please contact us if you have any accessibility needs that we can assist you with.

Catering

Full vegan catering will be provided throughout the conference consisting of welcome beverages and snacks, coffee/tea breaks with snacks, lunch, and a light drinks reception on Wednesday. There will be an optional conference dinner on Wednesday 29th which attendees are welcome to join by purchasing a dinner add-on with your ticket. An optional conference dinner will take place at BA-HA vegan. Please note, if you would like to join the conference dinner, you must register and purchase the dinner add-on by April 29th, as only very limited spaces will be available after this date.

Accommodation

Various suitable accommodation options are available throughout Birmingham city centre to suit most budgets. The closest hotels to the venue are The Clayton Hotel, Aloft (Birmingham Eastside), and Premier Inn (Birmingham City Centre - Exchange Square). We have secured preferential rates for the following hotels:
