Event description

Description

This event is now at full capacity, however waiting list tickets are still available for sign-up here. In order to maintain the intimacy of the weekend, places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

The Rhodes Healthcare Forum 2019 theme “From Surviving to Thriving” recognises the need to shift global health priorities towards ensuring well-being and reducing social inequality by providing universal healthcare coverage for all.

Internationally, governments have committed to implementing systems of universal health coverage that ensure equal access to quality healthcare without financial hardship. Yet, the World Bank and World Health Organisation estimate that at least half of the world’s population remain without access to essential health services. The forum’s programme will foster robust debates and examine the complex challenges inherent in improving health coverage. In particular, discussions will focus on the provision of health services for traditionally overlooked groups including the disabled, indigenous populations, and individuals affected by or displaced through conflict.

Over the weekend, attendees will evaluate recent advances in public health and health technologies, and explore how these can be leveraged to transform existing models of health policy and financing towards making equal access to affordable care a reality.

Our speakers will bring a diversity of experience and depth to these discussions and include renowned physicians, economists, innovators in genomics and health technologies as well as experts in mental health, human rights, public health financing and beyond. Dedicated mentoring sessions are a central part of the forum’s programme and scholars will be encouraged to critically assess how they can apply the ideas generated over the weekend to initiatives spanning their time at Oxford and beyond.
