Its our objective that you reach this level after taking a 5 day fashion photography course with us.
What David Olsan has to say after taking one of our courses 8 months ago:
“It’s 8 months since I have taken the Fashion photography course with Bruce Smith.
A lot has happened since then: 7 editorials published, photo exhibited in the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition, 3 look-books while keeping my full time IT job.
Before the course I knew how to use my camera but if you would have asked me what is a look-book I would not have had a clue. “Editorial” would be something that is very abstract to me. You can walk or you can fly. With Bruce you will always fly…
Did I mention that I have just started testing with a top London model agency?”

When & Where
The Bruce Smith Fashion Photography Academy
Bruce Smith Bio
When Bruce first started out as a fashion photographer he borrowed some fifties style ball gowns, initially for a fashion photography test shoot from a top fashion designer who sold her clothes through exclusive London stores.
Bruce presented her with some samples of his fashion photography test images and such was the impact of these images on the designer that she commissioned Bruce to shoot her next 3 major fashion collections, so what started out as a request for gowns to test with, a test shoot became a first paid assignment that was a published spread in one of the UK’s leading fashion magazines, at the time ‘Avant Guard’;
This recognition of his talent set Bruce off on a journey that has so far, spanned over 30 years. Confident and adventurous, he developed his own style and built a reputation for creating stylish, ‘classic’ images in couture and bridal wear.
Inspired by great fashion photographers from the decades past, such as Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, Barry Lategan, Horst P. Horst, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon.
So, like many other successful fashion photographers, Bruce Smith achieved his first big break in the fashion photography business by setting up a test shoot with a model. See video of images by Bruce. The next big break followed soon after when Catherine Raynor, a leading UK bridal wear couture designer whom had previously worked with such iconic photographers as Norman Parkinson, Terrance Donavan and after Catherine had shot with Bruce, John Swanell. Catherine commissioned Bruce to shoot for her. Her status within the bridal wear industry, and the success of the images that he had produced for her created a chain reaction which brought a queue of top bridal wear and couture designers to his studio door to shoot their collections.
By now, Bruce was becoming established as a leading fashion photographer. A commission from a leading UK bridal wear consumer magazine to shoot two editorial stories on location in Tobago led to many years of shooting high fashion for some of the top designers and manufacturers of couture and bridal wear, including Margaret Lee, Lyn Ashworth and Eleni Costi. Bruce’s classic fashion images inspired a long list of lingerie, hosiery and swimwear commissions from brands including, Charnos, Lapel, Silhouette, Miss Kini and Panache plus many more.
Shooting advertising campaigns, image brochures and catalogues, producing fashion shoots in some of the world most beautiful and exotic locations from Alaska to Kenya, Bruce had by now learned to arrange complete shoot productions for major fashion clients. From the sourcing of the talent and production teams, location managers, catering, location transport, even helicopters and arctic supply vessels, Bruce manages and controls all of the necessary elements of high calibre fashion shoots. Shooting on location, with all of its challenges, taught Bruce to shoot fast with available light and use all of the necessary skills to create successful fashion stories.
With the advent of digital capture, Bruce recognized the need to be at the forefront of technological advances. Moving from Nikon F4’s to D series bodies, he has been a dedicated advocate of the Nikon system.
