Wellbeing Yoga Retreat

9-14th January 2020

Costa Adeje, Tenerife South

Set in an Eco retreat in southern Tenerife, this beautiful space is perfect to explore the practice of yoga, mindfulness and meditation taught with a focus on supporting health and wellbeing.

This 5 day retreat will cover the cornerstones of a yoga practice;

  • Asana - Postures - mindful movement, using the body to realise holding patterns. Balancing strength & softness.

  • Pranayama - Breathing practices - learning how to breathe effectively - understand the link with your nervous system. How to use breathing practices to manage stress, anxiety and mood, quickly and effectively.

  • Yoga philosophy - Patanjali's yoga sutras - learn the art of compassion, patience, acceptance, gratitude - qualities at the heart of yoga,

  • Mind -Meditation , mindfulness, concentration, mantra, metta

  • Relaxation - including Yoga Nidra, the queen of relaxation practices

Josie & Katie’s teaching style is approached from an understanding that we are all different; in our range of movement, patterns in our minds, where we hold stress and how we breathe. This retreat will help you embrace those differences and know how to work with rather than against them.

The 3 daily yoga sessions provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in the practice of yoga and explore the effects on your body and mind.

This retreat is suitable for anyone, even yoga beginners, who wish to learn practical methods and tools to take into their everyday lives.

What to expect:
The morning practice provides an opportunity to explore meditation and practice Kriyas (ancient cleansing practices).

Moving into a practice to wake the body and mind with a mindful approach, connecting with the breath and the ground to deepen the effects of asana. Opening up our energy systems with an explorative approach to our own unique needs and differences. Move into your afternoon with more ease and presence.

The afternoon workshops will each have a theme to explore how yoga practices can influence our health and wellbeing. They will include a combination of the ancient practices of yoga and tantra such as; Chakras, Vayus, Koshas, Meditation, Pranayama and Mindfulness practices. Combined with a modern day understanding of the science and research which prove the effects of yoga and mindfulness on our physiology and neurology. They will include an exploration of neuroscience, applied anatomy and physiology, Positive Psychology, Transpersonal coaching.

The evening session of mindful movement and yoga Nidra to support a good night's sleep promoting healing and deep rest.


Proposed day schedule

8.00 - 9.00am -Meditation & Kryia’s (outside if weather good)

9.0-9.30am -Tea & Fruit

9.30- 11.30am -Breathwork, Nagas, Asana, Meditation & Relaxation

12 noon - Brunch (Vegetarian/ Vegan) & Free time

4.00- 6.30pm -Yoga Workshops - focused on Health & Wellbeing

7:00pm - Dinner (Vegetarian/ Vegan )

8.30 - 9.15pm - Yoga Nidra


The Teachers
Both Katie and Josie have completed the 500 hour Advanced Teacher Training ( IYN) at Yogasara Academy Bristol along with further Yoga teacher trainings

Josie Harrington trained as a Yoga Therapist at the Minded Institute in London, she combines this training with her skills and experience as a mental health nurse.. She is a qualified Yoga Nidra teacher and has an advanced yoga teaching certificate. She brings a therapeutic approach to teaching yoga & mindfulness, to support health & healing.

Katie Despres combines her yoga teaching with her experience and training in both Positive Psychology, Transpersonal Coaching & Systemic Family Constellations to aid her students in finding a greater depth of personal understanding. With a extensive commercial background running businesses in both London and Bristol and a mother of three; Katie brings a realistic and practical approach to her teaching, enabling the practice to be accessible to everyone.

The Retreat Centre
HACIENDA CRISTÓFORO is a place of peace and retreat in the South of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Forty-four years ago, here reigned the so called Malpais. The place was arid, hostile, rocky and without vegetation. However, the energy of the place and the wild captured the imagination of its founder, the architect Denis Devaris. As an artist and therapist it incited him to create a shelter for related people, where they could work with their ideas through workshops, seminars and activities. Now it is an ecological centre which has spaces for individual retreats or group activities, just 15 minutes walk from the coast.

The practices will be held in Sala Magna a radiant jewel in the crown of Cristóforo. Its imposing structure, set in a colourful oasis of blossoming semi-tropical plants and trees, is an combination of both cherished traditions, using local crafted wooden windows from Bali, and new ideas in architecture and where appropriate outdoors amongst the lush tropical landscaped gardens

Delicious seasonal and local Vegetarian & Vegan dishes will be prepared within our own house kitchen by local chefs. Providing Brunch and Dinner plus snacks, fruit and drinks.

Accommodation is on shared basis, twin & triple rooms in beautiful individually designed 4 / 5 bedroomed stone houses. First come first served. Limited single rooms.
