Event description
An introduction to handbuilding with clay covering several of the main techniques including pinching, coiling and slab work

About this event

DESCRIPTION

This fantastic beginners handbuilding course on 5 consecutive Saturday mornings teaches you the main handbuilding tecniques and how to glaze.

It covers pinching pots, coiling and working with slabs to make decorative tiles and either a lidded box or a vase. All your work is fired and the last session is used to glaze everything you have made. We have a number of project cards for reference which vary in ability level to inspire you as well as reference books and magazines. The tutor guides you through every step of the process encouraging and suggesting ways of improving your work. Saturday mornings are relaxed and fun. The space is occupied by both beginners and experienced potters so it's a great way to learn getting advice from both the tutor and past students who have continued with their practice.

There are only 4 people in the actual class so plenty of one to one teaching from the teachers.

All your materials and firings are included in the cost. We supply all equipment and aprons. All you need to do is turn up!

Week 1: Pinch pots using a grogged clay

Week 2: Coil pots using a grogged clay

Week 3: Decorative tiles using a lightly grogged clay

Week 4: Building with slabs using a lightly grogged white clay

Week 5: Glaze all your work. Ready to collect 2 weeks later

Dates are: September 11th, 18th, 25th, October 2nd & 9th 10am-12.15pm

Some classes are easier to miss than the others. If you do miss a session you may be able to do a catch up on a Saturday morning but please note that there is a charge of £40 for this. If you miss a class due to having to self-isolating and want to make it up please note that we unfortunately do have to charge for this.

Covid-19: Please note that we have implemented new work practices to keep everyone safe. When you arrive, you will have to queue outside. You will be allowed in one at a time and given time to take your seat. You will be issued with a mask (you can bring your own if you'd rather), a clean apron and towel as well as some latex gloves if you would prefer to use them. You will have to sanitise your hands. The teachers will be wearing face shields. We are only able to socially distance by 1 metre so we have installed cough screens in between each workstation. There will be one to one contact with the teachers through your hands as that is how pottery is taught. The teachers will sanitise their hands before making contact. At the end of the class you will leave one by one as you came in.

Cost: £185 inclusive of all materials and firings including Eventbrite fees.

REFUNDS: *Please note that if you cancel 10 full working days in advance then you will get a full refund. After this period and before the course starts you will only get a 50% refund if someone else can be found to replace you. There are no refunds after the start of your course. Please note that all refunds are minus Eventbrite fees which are non-refunadable. Cancellations may be subject to an admin fee of £20. Please note that our refund policy applies where people are required to quarantine. Where possible we will try and find a replacement for you but you should make sure that your travel insurance covers you for anything you might have to withdraw from at short notice.

Please note that we are unable to offer refunds or transfers within the 10 working days notice period if you are having to self-isolate. If you have tested positive for Covid-19 please get in touch with us immediately.
