Aimed at keen amateurs and semi-professionals wanting to learn the basics of studio lighting, the five sessions will take you through a range of different lighting techniques, explain the equipment you’ll need and how to use it and also provide you with the skills to control a shoot and direct your ‘model’.
If you’re considering setting up a home studio or maybe hiring a professional facility, this course will also help you understand what to look for when buying or selecting lights and how to get the best from them.
This course is also perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to use Manual settings on their camera. The studio settiing allws for a range of lighting options which require use of manual settings.
Delivered in 2 hour sessions over a 5 week period, the course will cover:
- Introduction to lighting – What everything does!
- Using and controlling light
- Health and safety in the studio
- Setting up the camera
- Metering for Studio lighting,
- White balance,
- High Key/ Low Key
- Filters/Coloured Gels
- Model direction
The practical workshops include theory supported by handouts. The emphasis is on practical work and demonstrations to help develop and consolidate your understanding. Practical work will be based around group activities working within the studio. Each activity is designed to help you gain confidence in how different lighting set-ups and settings affect the final image. We’ll also have a model available for you to work with and direct.
- DSLR or Bridge camera with manual settings
- Charged battery
- An empty memory card (don’t forget to clear any images from it in advance)

- Wednesday evening 7pm to 9pm
