Dr Sheila Watts is a historical linguist, specialising in language variation and change in the Germanic language family. She will be introducing the speakers, chairing the discussion and representing Newnham College at this event.
We are delighted to announce that Professor Jenny Morton will be giving a short talk on her current research which focuses on Huntington’s disease (HD), although she has an interest in all neurodegenerative diseases, especially those that cause cognitive, emotional or psychiatric decline. Most recently she has been using sheep as a large animal model for studying brain function in health and disease. Her talk title is "In search of treatments for Huntington's disease: what have sheep got to do with it?”
Current Newnham PhD student, Geneviève Young (NC 2019) will talk on "Songs of Deeds: Making Myth in Medieval France". This talk will explore how the epic poetry of the eleventh and twelfth centuries contributes to the creation of national mythologies over time.
We also are pleased to have Anne Denholm (NC 2010) to perform for us. Anne Denholm is one of the leading British harpists of her generation and is earning a strong reputation for her interpretations and powerful performances across a variety of musical fields. In May 2022, Anne was appointed Section Principal Harp with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
