Professor Dr Jenny Mander (NC 1983) is a specialist in the cultural history of the eighteenth century, focusing on the movement of people and ideas. She will be introducing the speakers, chairing the discussion and representing Newnham College at this event.

We are delighted to announce that Onassis Classics Fellow Dr Shushma Malik will talk “Classics and New Directions” which is linked to her research interests which include Roman emperors in political culture, Roman historiography, and classical receptions (particularly in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries).

Current Newnham PhD student, Nazia Jassim (NC 2018) will talk on "The cognitive neuroscience behind sensory perception and learning in autism spectrum conditions", where she will describe findings from her doctoral research on the neurocognitive mechanisms of sensory perception in autism.

Sophia Ramnarine (NC 2016) will provide a solo cello performance. Sophia is currently the principal cellist of the Leicester Symphony Orchestra. She has performed solo cello recitals in Cambridge, Leicester and London (supported by the Thomas Harris Piano Foundation) and last summer, she performed in the Aurora Festival in Stockholm.

We are also pleased to have Francesca Moore-Bridger (NC 2002) who works with many of the top UK orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Chamber Orchestra. She also works as a session musician with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and with theatre companies, including the Royal Shakespeare Company. Francesca also currently teaches at the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
