Description

Come and join us for a tour of the Imperial War Museum, focussing on life during World War 2. We'll look at different tactics and weapons used in war, and discover how real people – both soldiers and civilians – were affected by the events. We'll finish with a well earned drink in good company.

This event will be a great opportunity for single Christians to mingle and meet new people.

The Guided Tour

We will start our tour with some of the iconic symbol of wars, such as the huge naval guns that guard the entrance to the museum and those inside the museum atrium, including a spitfire, a Russian tank and World War 2 rockets. We will talk about how these objects were used in war and how they came to represent certain national views of those wars. We will reflect on the unintended consequences of war, from its impact on our understanding of mental health to its impact on animals and on scientific advancement.

We will then take a trip through the World War II galleries, exploring what happened in the air, at sea, in North Africa and the momentous D-Day campaign. Throughout we will discuss how the war affected real people, soldiers and civilians. This is a tour interested in strategy, tactics and human impact, you do not need to know all about weaponry or be a military historian!

The tour will last approximately 2 hours, after which we will go for social drinks at the Three Stags pub.

Please note: We are focussing on WW2 as the WW1 galleries are too small to suitably guide a group of 20 people. If you would like to explore the First World War exhibits, we recommend you arrive 1-2 hours early to walk around these exhibits yourself.

Our last guided tour was a huge success, so we encourage you to book soon!
