Spring in Burgess Park Woodlands

Enjoy the spring in Burgess Park woodlands with practical woodland activity and led walks.

The woodland maintenance sessions will be workdays where you can undertake practical activity and pick–up some skills. Urban Canopy will be leading the woodland maintenance sessions. We are charging a £5 booking fee (plus Eventbrite admin fee). Refundable on attendance or cancellation. Hot drink provided. During the session you will learn about the history of the Burgess Park woodlands, the trees, the purpose of the woodland activity, and use of tools to undertake practical activity. You will be using tools including saws and loppers. Woodland maintenance activity: these are the types of activities across the sessions <ul><li>plug planting </li><li>stag beetle loggeries</li><li>weed fabric removal </li><li>dead hedging and path edging </li><li>coppicing </li></ul>Location: The woodlands activity takes place in St George&#x27;s Way copses. We are working in the woodlands alongside St George&#x27;s Way and opposite Cator St and Ebley Close. This is at the Trafalgar Avenue end of the park. The location is very close to the zebra crossing on St George&#x27;s Way close to Cator St. We will be off the main path. What to wear: Heavy duty trainers or boots and warm clothes suitable for being outside. This is the final woodlands maintenance session. We intend to organise more next winter.Urban Canopy are a community gardening organisation working with park groups, residents associations and schools across Southwark, Lambeth and Wandsworth. Led by Stephen and Bill who are both residents of Camberwell, they focus on projects that bring community groups together through horticulture, art and education, while creating gardens and improving public spaces. Friends of Burgess Park have organised these woodland maintenance sessions as part of a project funded by Natural England to encourage people to explore and learn about woodlands.
