5th International Postgraduate Conference on Modern Foreign Languages, Linguistics & Literature

Friday, 1st June 2018 from 09:00 to 17:00 (BST). School of Language and Global Studies. University of Central Lancashire. Adelphi Building. Preston, Lancashire PR1 7BQ - England.


The Keynote Speakers will be:

  • Dr Sharon McCulloch (University of Central Lancashire) @samcculloch1 The title of her talk is: What does “engaging deeply with the literature” really mean? Postgraduate students’ reading-to-writing practices and markers’ evaluations.

  • Dr Robert Drummond (Manchester Metropolitan University) @RobDrummond The title of his talk is: Becoming a 'proper academic'.


We already have presenters confirmed from Cyprus, England, Ireland, Japan, Scotland, and the USA.

The Call for Papers is already closed.

The University of Central Lancashire will host the 5th International Postgraduate Conference on Modern Foreign Languages, Linguistics and Literature on Friday 1st June 2018.


Abstract submission guidelines

  • Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words (excluding title, keywords, and references) and should be submitted as a word attachment to the conference email address (pgconferenceadmin@uclan.ac.uk) using the participant’s university email. The submission email should contain the participant’s name, affiliation and email address.

  • The abstract should be written in Times New Roman, 12 pt., single spacing but should not include the author’s name or any other identifying information.

  • Papers may be submitted in three strands: research (reporting on data arising from field testing), conceptual (theoretical studies) or poster presentations. No late submissions will be accepted. All submissions will be blind peer-reviewed. Accepted abstracts will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

Publication guidelines

Papers which focus on second language teaching and research, TESOL and applied linguistics may be considered for publication in a special edition of the peer-reviewed Journal of Second Language Teaching and Research (http://pops.uclan.ac.uk/index.php/jsltr/) soon after the conference.


The conference is free for participants and presenters, and light refreshments will be provided.
