About this event

Loosely aligned with the title of Luigi Pirandello’s play, ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’, Kulper will set up several metaphorical organs that nourish the construction of his practice, where he is always on the hunt for a diverse and agile author. These ‘organs’ include ‘language prompts’, and the generative design capacities of ‘language folds’; ‘analogous thinking‘ as a means to increase design skills through brokering deals with ‘likenesses’; unraveling ‘the naming problem’ to avoid the ‘crisis of reduction’; developing ‘tailored visualizations’ that are phase specific in a project; advocating for ‘heterogeneous ideas’ that augment more common approaches linked to homogeneous thinking; exposing the virtues of ‘different speeds of work(ing)’ production; and tickling the ‘similarities and differences of the languages of architecture and the languages of visualizations’. All contributing to the construction of his creative and teaching practices. In addition to sharing other work, one project, the David’s Island ‘Strategic Plot, will be drawn out, thickened as it were, to enable more specific engagement with a style of thinking about some of his work. The talk will get under the metaphorical hood of influences, hunches, and flat-out shots in the dark, toward constructing a spatial and teaching practice towards enlarging the cultural imaginary.
