6 Months to COP26: An Alternative Briefing

We're six months away from Glasgow hosting the UN's COP26 talks on climate change. What sort of topics should be on the agenda? This session is an opportunity for topics and perspectives that might not make it to the main table, but are valuable and dynamic contributions to the climate justice movement.

This event will be hosted by Chanté Joseph and features contributions from Angela Chan, Harpreet Kaur Paul and Adam Corner.

Chanté Joseph is a freelance writer, digital content producer and host of Channel 4’s How Not To Be Racist & The Face Magazine’s ‘My Public Me’ Podcast. Chanté frequently writes for platforms including British Vogue, Complex, The Guardian, The I Paper, Huffington Post, VICE, Gal-dem, Soho House and more. In 2018, she wrote her first-ever cover story for Wonderland Magazine interviewing Beyoncé’s very own Chloe and Halle. She has recently hosted live streams for Tik Tok and collaborated with brands such as Bumble, adidas, Spotify and Youtube. Chanté is also currently writing for her first book A Quick Ting On: The Black British Power Movement, due out in 2021.

Angela Chan is a creative climate change communicator and independently runs the curatorial project Worm: art + ecology (wormworm.org). She holds an MA in Climate Change and her research interests span decolonial climate justice, geography, feminist science and contemporary sinophone science fiction. Angela collaborates widely with visual artists, activists and speculative fiction authors, and co-founded the London Chinese Science Fiction Group hosted monthly at UCL.

Harpreet Kaur Paul is an organiser with the newly launched Tipping Point UK, a human rights lawyer, researcher, writer as well as a PhD candidate, at the University of Warwick Law School. She is the author of a recent Common Wealth report, Towards Reparative Climate Justice: From Crises to Liberations and co-editor, together with Dalia Gebrial, of Perspectives on a Global Green New Deal.

Adam Corner is a freelance writer and researcher, specialising in climate, communication & culture (www.adamcorner.uk). During roles at Cardiff University, as Research Director at Climate Outreach, and as one of the founding Directors of the Centre for Climate Change & Social Transformations (CAST), Adam has played a central role in building and communicating the research base on public engagement with climate change. Publishing comment and analysis in international media such as the Guardian, New Scientist, and the New York Times, Adam’s writing has also focused on music, culture and climate change, with features in Crack Magazine, The Face & Vice magazine. Adam's recent Guardian feature asks whether the music industry’s recovery from Covid-19 can be green.
