Starting on Saturday, November 29th, 12.30pm, this in-person course will take place in the Kaboom! studio in Leadworks. Over the span of 6 weeks, you will dive deep into the art of songwriting, exploring various tools & techniques to get the best out of your unique artistry.

Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, Matt will guide you through the process of crafting compelling lyrics, catchy melodies, and memorable hooks. You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with fellow songwriters, gaining valuable feedback and inspiration.

This course is led by Matt Kemp from local act Kid Hyena.
He has been writing songs since catching the bug at the age of seventeen and views songwriting as a magnificent vehicle to explore yourself and the world around you.
Songwriting for Matt has opened up many creative pathways in his life & led him to tour and perform his songs in various acts across Europe, tour East America, write percussive songs in a festival dance music act & walk 900 miles around the UK planting trees and playing gigs to raise climate awareness.
Currently he plays in 'Kid Hyena' an innovative musical act that started life on the backstreets of Barcelona and is now based in Plymouth. Post pandemic the band toured the UK in an old motorhome and have released an album 'It Takes Courage To Be Happy' which had a hat trick of songs featured on BBC Introducing and international radio.
Matt has facilitated workshops for many years in singing, self expression, improv & music and presently runs a community based studio in Leadworks, Stonehouse and delivers 'improv comedy' workshops sessions in Plymouth and within the criminal justice system.
He can be found almost always metaphorically or in reality with a pen in hand looking for or writing that next song.
