Event description
The ultimate 6 week Intro to Pottery course covering the potter's wheel, handbuilding and a range of decorating techniques.

About this event

The ultimate beginner's and beginner's+ Intro to Pottery course

This course is suitable for beginners, those who have some experience in pottery already via another course right up to intermediate level.

Over 6 weeks you will learn to throw basic shapes on the potter’s wheel, turn bases, make and attach handles as well as learning handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling and building with slabs.

For more advanced learners we will look at your experience on an individual level to work out a plan to help you achieve your goals and get to the next level be it on the wheel, handbuilding or a bit of both.

You will decorate your work using stained slips and techniques such as Sgraffito, the art of carving patterns onto the surface of the clay as well as coming back to glaze your work in week 6.

This course teaches you a wide variety of basic pottery skills and then allows you to explore further the bits that you are interested in. If you want to spend most of the 6 weeks throwing on the wheel, you can do. If you want to take your handbuilding further, we will help you put together your own projects. Want to mix it up? You can!

The course runs on Saturdays 1.30-4.30pm and costs £425 per person inclusive of all materials and firings. Please note that we do provide teas/coffees and biscuits on this course.

This class is not suitable for pregnant women.

Cost: £425 inclusive of all materials and firings.

Dates: October 23rd, 30th, November 6th, 13th, 20th 1.30-4.30pm + glazing on Saturday 11th December either 10am-1pm or 2-5pm.

Covid-19: Please note that we have implemented new work practices to keep everyone safe. When you arrive, you will have to queue outside. You will be allowed in one at a time and given time to take your seat. You will be issued with a mask (you can bring your own if you'd rather), a clean apron and towel as well as some latex gloves if you would prefer to use them. You will have to sanitise your hands. The teachers will be wearing face shields. We are not able to socially distance so we have installed cough screens in between each wheel. There will be one to one contact with the teachers through your hands as that is how pottery is taught. The teachers will sanitise their hands before making contact. At the end of the class you will leave one by one as you came in.

PREGNANCY: Please note that this course is not suitable for pregnant women as there are health implications.

If you miss a class due to having to self-isolate please note that catch-up classes for this course are charged for at £20 per hour and we may not be able to catch-up the whole 4 hours of a missed class.

After you have finished the course you will be up to membership standard should you wish to join.

REFUNDS & DATE TRANSFERS: *Please note that if you cancel or request a date transfer 10 full working days in advance are required. After this period and before the course starts you will only get a 50% refund or transfer if someone else can be found to replace you.
