Make Languages Your Business

As part of our Erasmus+ project with partners in Denmark and Norway, SCILT, Scotland's National Centre for Languages are hosting a half day event aimed at a corporate audience to promote the value of languages and intercultural skills in business.

In his 2015 article in the Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Prof. James Foreman-Peck reported that deficient language skills and the assumption that "everyone speaks English" costs the UK economy around £48 billion a year.

The event will allow participants to listen to representatives from a variety of sectors of industry sharing their first-hand experiences of the successes and challenges involved in developing linguistic and intercultural skills within their companies.

There will be keynote and plenary speeches from prominent figures in Scottish business who will highlight the importance of having an international outlook and the benefits this can bring. There will also be opportunity to view the launch of a toolkit which supports Scottish businesses to grow their international market, increase the volume of foreign clients in the domestic market and develop the linguistic and cultural skills of their workforce.

There will be plenty of opportunity to network and ask expert advice from our associate partners at Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) and the Scottish Chambers of Commerce.

Attendance at the event is free of charge and refreshments will be provided on arrival. Due to limited venue capacity, guests must register by clicking on the green button above by 12pm on Friday, 27th September.
