Description

In partnership with the WS Society and Scotland Street Press, Edinburgh World Heritage are delighted to invite you to -

The launch of 66: The House that Viewed the World

‘One of the most vivid works of historical narration to have appeared for many years’ - Alexander McCall Smith

Set in 66 Queen Street, the book tells the story of the extraordinary people and events associated with the house from the late 18th century to the present day. Empowered by the Scottish Enlightenment, the diverse characters range from heroes to villains, from people of conscience, to subjects of tabloid scandal and moral prurience. As Edinburgh emerges to become the intellectual, banking and professional capital of an enlightened Scotland, the book tells the story of how the modern world was shaped, how some people became masters of their circumstances, and others prisoners.

Join us in the splendid setting of the Signet Library on Tuesday 26 November for an evening with the author, John D O Fulton. In conversation with Robert Pirrie WS, Chief Executive of the WS Society, John will talk about his research and the inspiration behind the work after giving a short presentation.

The discussion will be followed by a book signing and celebratory drinks reception.
