Mel Nurse - Mission 3 Founder at Zinc VC

Previously Co-Founder - Disruptive Innovation Lab @ CRUK

Mel is a very clever spark - she started as an engineer at Rolls Royce and joined the charity sector 5 years ago when she joined CRUK. She was head of Innovation then became Co-Founder of CRUK's Disruptive Innovation Lab. Her aim was to "Rapidly built an entrepreneurial ventures team to respond to the threat of disruption to CRUK’s income. Tested alternative business models to futureproof the charity’s impact in a rapidly changing market context. Product Managed the team and the ventures." Ultimately the Innovation Lab failed after its first year and she is now setting up her own start up business. Andrew Bathgate - Partner at Good Innovation, Co-Founder at Good Lab

Andrew helps organisations that do good grow through designing, developing and delivering new products and services.

Andrew's passion is working to help changes people's lives and solve some of society's biggest challenges through a combination of raising more money and developing new services. Andrew believes in doing this through using insight to understand what needs to be designed and following this up with a combination of creative thinking and a solid commercial approach.

Andrew has worked with a wide range of social-purpose organisations including some of the UK's largest charities, social enterprises and Local Authorities. With almost fifteen years experience of innovation, also working for industries including telecomms, media, information services and financial services and also launched his own startup. Andrew has spoken at numerous conferences and have been interviewed by the BBC, Al Jazeera and CNBC as well as many radio stations.

The event was created by Dawn Newton, after noticing that there were lots of events but nothing which supported participants to network in a practical way through facilitated activities.
