6th IMarEST Ballast Water Conference
6th IMarEST Ballast Water Conference: Solutions to the Problems of Implementing the Ballast Water Management Convention
Supported by the GEF-UNDP-IMO Globlast Partnerships Programme
Following the ratification of the Ballast Water Management Convention (“the Convention), and with the shipping community potentially woefully unprepared, attention is now focused on its implementation. As well as the practical elements ship owners and operators will need to take (the selection of the appropriate treatment system and its application and fitting), there are a number of remaining scientific and technical challenges that need to urgently be addressed.
At this event, experts from the ballast water community and beyond are invited to pitch technological, regulatory and scientific solutions to a series of charge questions- questions that are challenging and thought-provoking and that highlight the scale of the issue. By taking a novel approach of part-conference and part-workshop, the aim is to make progress towards finding solutions to the challenges.
No other ballast water conference offers participants such a unique opportunity to feed directly into the discussion on the technical, scientific and practical solutions related to implementation of the Convention.
