75th Anniversary Debates: Institute of Archaeology Lecture Theatre - G6

The debates are a series of 'Question Time' style debates, where key public and professional figures will consider a series of major themes relating to the role of archaeology in the modern world.  Each debate will commence at 6.15pm in the Archaeology Lecture Theatre G6, followed by a drinks reception.

 

Monday 12 March: Archaeology & Contemporary Society

Panel Members:

Sara Selwood (CHAIR) is an independent cultural analyst and consultant. She has worked in senior positions in museums and galleries and cultural management for 30 years.

Nathan Schlanger's research interests include the history and politics of archaeology. Since 2005 he has been in charge of international research and development at the French national institute for preventive archaeological research (INRAP), dealing with the relations between development, research and outreach in contemporary archaeology.

Tiffany Jenkins is a cultural sociologist; author of Contesting Human Remains in Museum Collections: The Crisis of Cultural Authority, and the arts and society programme director of the Institute of Ideas.

Neil Faulkner FSA is a Research Fellow at Bristol University, Founder-director of the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project, a leading activist in Counterfire and the Coalition of Resistance, and the author of A Marxist History of the World (www.counterfire.org).

Ben Cowell is Assistant Director, External Affairs for the National Trust, where he has recently led the Trust's campaign against the Government's proposed reforms to the planning system.
