7Cs Seminar: Becoming a Better Teacher - The Flipped Classroom
Event Information
Description
Becoming a Better Teacher - The Flipped Classroom, with Dr Nigel Francis, Medicine, Swansea University.
Would you like to learn more about the Flipped Classroom?
Flipped learning places higher order thinking at the heart of the classroom. The flipped classroom is characterised by a student-centered model, allowing learners to carry out the lower order thinking skills at home, freeing up time in class for the higher order skills, with support and guidance from the academic, who becomes a facilitator rather than a lecturer.
In this session, Dr Nigel Francis will describe his journey from starting at Swansea to the point where he introduced the flipped classroom, and how this recent experience has produced some quite striking results (as shown in student feedback and performance data).
Learn how the flipped approach meets Chickering and Gamson's Seven Principles of Good Undergraduate Education in the changing Higher Education learning environment, in any discipline and subject.
Therefore this session is most suitable for academic teaching staff across the university who wish to learn from the experience of a fellow Swansea University colleague.
