Event description

Description

Tonight 180 students and their teachers from six Brent secondary schools will perform in their first ever public showcase side-by-side with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Brent Youth String Orchestra under the baton of leading conductor Benjamin Pope and RPO creative leader James Redwood.

Tonight's programme will be inspired by the theme of the Firebird - a magical bird with majestic, bright plumage who saves a young prince from certain death. The showcase will premiere an original song and body percussion piece by James Redwood and the Brent secondary school music teachers, as well as a special rendition of extracts from Igor Stravinsky's masterpiece The Firebird Suite (1919).

The showcase is part of the RPO and Brent Music Education Hub's 7UP project which aims to maintain students’ engagement with music beyond primary school through tailored in-school presentations and workshops with professional musicians from the Orchestra.

The 7UP project is funded by a £100,000 grant from John Lyon’s Charity with additional support from the RPO and Brent Music Education Hub.

If you require accessible or wheelchair tickets please contact Sophie Plumb RPO, Community & Education Coordinator directly on plumbs@rpo.co.uk or 0207 608 8826.
