My name is Nick Scaramanga and I am a meditation and mindfulness teacher, trained and certified by Zenways and accredited by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association

The courses we run provide you with the framework and support needed to establish meditation and mindfulness practices in your daily life. Together we will explore meditative positions, posture and practices, the numerous associated benefits and develop individual mindfulness practices to fit in with your life.

Teaching secular (non-religious) meditation practices has a tradition in Zen stretching back to the 9th century. Meditation for the purposes of boosting health and wellbeing is called “bompu Zen”, and is firmly grounded in the teachings of the great Zen masters.

This course is based on teachings of the Zen master Shinzan Roshi in Japan, as transmitted to Daizan Roshi, my Zen master in England. Whilst remaining true to the practices that have been given to me, I do, of course, bring my own personal experience and style of teaching with the fundamental goal of giving you the tools, framework and encouragement for developing and nurturing a life-long practice of meditation and mindfulness to transform and enrich your life.

This course has some overlap with, but is different to, MBSR and MBCT courses (MBSR: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction & MBCT: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy). Our course is purely meditation and mindfulness based, with no admixtures of psychotherapy, and the orientation is teacher-student rather than therapist-client. Although our practices are being used in the NHS and other healthcare settings, we take a much wider view of wellbeing, believing that it’s more than simply alleviating psychological distress or stress reduction but also optimising each individual's life experience and unleashing their maximum potential.
