DESCRIPTION

The 8 week programme on offer follows the MBSR group-based programme developed, in the 1970’s, by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre. Each session will include time to discuss and experience a range of guided mindfulness practices with the aim of increasing self awareness. The course involves daily home practice and this is supported by weekly handouts and guided meditations.

The Practice of Mindfulness can:

  • Foster a feeling of wholeness

  • Create a greater capacity to deal with adverse events

  • Help us to feel more satisfied with life

Mindfulness is paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment.

MBSR uses mindful movement, meditation, group discussion, and inquiry to teach students how to use mindfulness to relate differently to stress. The course teaches practical ways to integrate mindfulness into daily life and build and sustain a personal mindfulness practice.

Studies indicate that mindfulness-based stress reduction programs can reduce anxiety and increase general well-being and overall happiness.

Mindfulness can be successfully learned and practiced by people of all ages and backgrounds. No prior experience is necessary.

Mindfulness is a life skill, which will enhance your experience of living daily. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy or counselling, if you are not sure whether mindfulness is suitable for you please consult your GP.

We sometimes feel as if we are sleep walking through life, life is just happening to us? You may feel that your connection with others is strained? You are easily annoyed by trivial things? You may be feeling stressed at some point of everyday and would like to be able to rid yourself of those feelings and anxious thoughts. Then learning mindfulness might be right for you.

Mindfulness training has been proven time and again to improve health and wellbeing. It helps us think more clearly, perform better, feel calmer, less anxious and less depressed.

Sessions are practical and interactive, you learn by experience. Each session is approximately 2 hours.

In just 8 weeks on the MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) Course you will learn the basics of mindfulness and be well on your way to embedding this life affirming practice.

The 8 week course also includes an optional, but recommended, silent day retreat between sessions 6 and 7. This will involve a day of establishing all core techniques again but through silent practice enabling a deeper and more

You will be encouraged to do regular practice between sessions at home with the opportunity to have email contact with your trainer, and others on the course between sessions.

You will be given a certificate of attendance on completion of the course.
