Event description

Description

This course is half practice, half chat about what you are learning. We start each session with mindful movement and meditation - using gentle tai chi and yoga as a way of bringing the mind into the present moment. This is a great way to learn how to come to deep states of peace as the body in gentle motion gives the mind something to focus on.

Once relaxed, unwound and settled, we talk do group exercises; each week with a different theme.

WEEK 1: The way our minds work, how we so often live on automatic pilot following the path laid out before us. Doing the same habitual actions and treading the same thought patterns. We expore how it feels to open our minds to new ways of feeling, thinking, being.

WEEK 2: Our perceptions and how our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and attitudes are learned and completely individual. Our thoughts do not necessarily reflect the truth of any situation and we start to learn to bring more conscious awareness to our minds and what they are telling us. This is the beginning of freedom.

WEEK 3: We explore how joyful being present in our bodies can be through an extended movement practice.

WEEK 4: We start to look at some of the more difficult aspects of our lives and how we generally react to them. We look at how so often we numb, deny, push away our feelings and how this can wreak havoc on our lives as we are not being truthful either with ourselves or with those around us.

WEEK 5: We explore different ways of being with the difficulties in our lives - turning towards and accepting. This does not mean that we just roll over and accept our difficulties, it simply means that we are able look at them clearly, hold them without pushing away them away, pretending they don't exist or mindlessly reacting. From here we can start to behave with more skill, power and strength.

WEEK 6: We look at relationships and how to mindfully relate to each other, how to learn to communicate the truth of who we are to our nearest and dearest - saying no when we mean no and yes when we mean yes. We learn how to look at our family and friends without judgement also. When we are able to do this vast amounts of energy, empathy and intimacy are created

WEEK 7: The importance of listening to yourself and self care. We look at our habits, what we take into our minds through behaviours, media, exercise and whether they are helping or hindering us.

WEEK 8: Review of the learning of the course and how to stay mindful going forwards.

The course is like a life inventory. It helps you know where you're stuck, what's working and what's not and brings huge amounts of self awareness and self compassion, helping you to focus on what’s important and enjoy more of the magical ordinary moments of your human life.

The couse runs from 6.30pm-8.30pm on consecutive Monday evenings from Monday 27 Jan - Monday 23 March, missing out Monday 17 Feb (half term). Early bird price is £225 (if booked before 15 Dec) or £250 after that.

Testimonials:

'Samata continues to be such a wonderful guide and supportive mentor on my path of self-discovery.

Through the work that we have done together in the past 3 months, I can honestly say that my life has transformed.

Initially, through her 8-week mindfulness programme, she has provided me with the experience of valuable tools and techniques that have allowed me to remain calm, open and focused whilst gaining a deeper insight into who I am and what I WANT for myself. Previously, I have lived life mostly for others and sometimes prioritised other's needs over important aspects of my own self-care. Interestingly, my ability to help others have been amplified 10x now that I am able to keep myself grounded, centred and focused. I will cherish the things that I learnt through her programme every day for the rest of life - I feel that the experience has unlocked a whole new world of possibilities for what I can achieve both personally and professionally - for myself, and for others.'

'The course has helped in many ways, to react more calmly. To react less negatively and try to look at situations from a different perspective. I enjoyed the discussions of the concepts so much that I am now reading Full Catastrophe Living. Mindfulness is helping me accept my life more, not the waste time lamenting the past circumstances that have lead me here. It has helped me to slow down and appreciate life, thank you.'

- Claire

'Sam has been an amazing teacher. I always feel so peaceful afer the sessions. She is approachable and knowledgable and conveys herself so clearly at a level that is easy to understand, putting everyone at ease. the course has helped me to come to my breath and use meditation to calm me down. I am much more aware of my body sensations and how I am feeling, which has really helped me to gain control of myself and situations as they are, knowing they will pass. I have found Sam inspiring both as a facilitator and as a person.'
