The ultimate beginner's and Improvers Pottery course

This course is suitable for beginners and those who have some experience in pottery already via another course right up to intermediate level. It is for adults 18 and over only.

Over 8 weeks you will learn to throw basic shapes on the potter’s wheel & turn bases as well as learning handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling, building with slabs & nerikomi.

For more advanced learners we will look at your experience on an individual level to work out a plan to help you achieve your goals and get to the next level be it on the wheel, handbuilding or a bit of both.

We will have set projects to challenge you throughout the course that you are welcome to follow if you want rather than come up with your own.

You will decorate your work using stained slips and techniques such as Sgraffito, the art of carving patterns onto the surface of the clay as well as coming back to glaze your work in week 8.

You will also learn the art of Nerikomi, working with stained porcelain to create amazing patterns in the clay.

This course teaches you a wide variety of basic pottery skills and then allows you to explore further the bits that you are interested in. If you want to spend most of the 7 weeks throwing on the wheel, you can do. If you want to take your handbuilding further, we will help you put together your own projects. Want to mix it up? You can!

The course runs on Wednesdays 6.45-9pm and costs £395 per person inclusive of all VAT. Prices include materials and firings.

This class is not suitable for pregnant women unless you just do handbuilding.

Cost: £395 inclusive of all materials, firings & VAT.

Dates: Wednesday May 22nd, 29th, June 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th & July 3rd + glazing on Saturday July 13th 10am-12.15pm.
