Course description
This course aims to give broad understanding of substance misuse and the impact that it has on individuals and the wider community.
During this course, we’ll discuss various categories of substance and their methods of administration, incorporating harm reduction strategies where appropriate. During this course stigma and stereotyping are addressed through open debate, to highlight the difficulties and discrimination that drug and alcohol users face.
Course prerequisites
The course is aimed at professionals with little or no knowledge of substance misuse who have entered the sector either for the first time or would like to update their knowledge.
Learning outcomes
- Describe the most commonly misused categories of substances
- Identify signs of substance misuse
- Identify the main methods of drug use
- Describe different patterns of substance misuse
- List the effects of alcohol and the risks associated with use
- Understand the law surrounding the drug classification system

9:30am – 4:30pm, 45mins for lunch

This course does have the option of a participant completing an accreditation with an additional cost of £55.
