8th Annual Expertise and Skill Acquisition Network

Across the two days at St Mary's University we have a keynote presentation by Dr Julie Gore from the University of Bath on Naturalistic Decision Making and also three symposiums. There will be a symposium on Ecological Dynamics in Sport, with speaker including Rick Shuttleworth and Ludovic Seifert, a symposium on the use of video feedback in sports performance settings with speakers including Allistair McRobert and Alex Scanlon, and a symposium on Challenging Culturally Resilient Beliefs of Skill Acquisition with speakers from the Movement & Skill Acquisition Ireland group.

Day 1: Wednesday 1st May, 2019 (12:30 hrs arrival, 13.00 hrs-17:30 hrs + Social Event from 18:00 hrs onwards)

Day 1 focuses on academic research. The day will include a symposium and we also encourage PhD students and early career researchers to submit an abstract for oral presentation on this day. A Student Prize will be awarded for the oral presentations.

The social event will be held the evening at the Cabbage Patch Pub in Twickenham. A buffet meal will be available for those that purchase a ticket, and a bar with the Champions League semi-final shown.

Day 2: Thursday 2nd May (09:30 hrs arrival, 10.00-16:00 hrs)

Day 2 focuses on applying research to practice and will involve academic researchers and applied practitioners presenting and discussing current approaches to skill acquisition and expertise. The day consists of the keynote presentation by Dr Julie Gore on Naturalistic Decision Making and also two symposiums. Poster presentations occur during the lunch break.

Abstract Submissions

We welcome you to submit an abstract for presentation via an oral communication or poster. Abstracts of no more than 200 words are to be submitted by the 15th February, 2019, with the decision to be returned by 15th March. Hotel Information

For those attending both days there are plenty of hotels in the surrounding area. The Travelodge in Twickenham is a 15minute walk to the University and opposite the social event venue (https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/537/London-Twickenham-hotel)
