Event description

Description

The Centre’s Annual Symposium is a celebration of the wealth of excellence we have here in Oxford, and the passion and commitment to cancer research that is shared across our community. The programme showcases the breadth of activity a cross the Centre and features cross-departmental and interdisciplinary partnerships, supporting translational cancer research in Oxford.

With approximately 300 people attending each year, the symposium provides an opportunity for our members to network and sparks new collaborations. It also provides a platform to highlight the work of our younger scientists through poster competitions (see abstract guidance below) and presentations from students.

The event is exclusive for Centre members only. If you are not yet a member, not sure if meet the criteria, or if you are unsure if you are already a Centre member, you can submit a request here.

The 8th Annual Symposium will feature themed sessions which will showcase Artificial Intelligence, Cancer Big Data, Clinical Imaging and Molecular Omics. The day will also feature a talk from Professor Amato Giaccia in our ‘New to Oxford’ session, who has recently been appointed as the new Director of the MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology.

Special Update: We are very excited to confirm our keynote for the symposium will be Professor Tak Mak, who is best known for his discovery of the T-cell receptor in the early 1980’s along with discovering the role of CTLA-4 in cancer in the mid 1990’s. He is scheduled to talk towards the end of the afternoon so stick around if you can to hear some of his fantastic work!

Come and meet the specialised Research Translation team (James Ritchie and Julie Stock) from CRUK Commercial Partnerships, they will have a stand showcasing their services. They can support progression of your research towards patient benefit. They cover a broad base of expertise spanning research translation, target validation, drug discovery, preclinical and clinical development, access to CRUK funding and commercialisation of research.

The event will close with a canapés and drinks networking reception - all attendees are welcome to attend. Guest speakers, Centre Committee members, and fellow Centre members will be in attendance at the networking session; this will give you an opportunity to build new connections.
