Event description

Description

A 9 hour therapy marathon: Friday 26th January 6.00pm - 9.00pm and Saturday 27th January 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Participating in a therapy marathon can be seen as a kind of brief encounter. As we meet with the group, we come into contact with others, and in so doing, we come into contact with ourselves again.

The time-limited nature of the frame can give rise to intense experiences of self and others, which may be supportive and nourishing, or challenging and provocative.

As the group moves through its lifespan there is great potential for interaction, exploration, reflection and learning.

We can ask: "What do I/we do, between saying Hello and saying Goodbye?"

We can view the experience as a representation of life itself; asking ourselves how we use it, and whether we make healthy or unhealthy decisions within its time-frame.

The format will be largely organic, allowing for the participation of all and flexibility of focus. Group members will be invited simply to engage, thoughtfully and authentically, with the flow. In amongst this, we will take time to consider how we make sense of things using a TA framework, and deepen our understanding in this way also.

Therapist: Ian Argent MSc (TA Psychotherapy), CTA (P), Dip. Clinical Supervision Ian is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, practicing privately in Colchester (Essex) and Central London. He has worked in the field of palliative/end-of-life care, supporting patients and families as they face death. He has also worked at a specialist psychosexual clinic within an NHS Trust, helping people with difficulties of sex and intimacy.

He is a supervisor to counsellors and psychotherapists from within and outside the TA tradition.

Ian is Chair of UKATA's Ethics & Professional Practice Committee, and is a UKCP 'rep' for UKATA. He sits on the Steering Committee (Executive) of the HIPC College of UKCP, helping to run the College's professional and regulatory functions.

A Link Centre certificate will be presented at the end of the course.
