90 Day Leading With Resilience Challenge

The Health & Well-Being Agenda is a priority for Leaders in England and Wales at the moment. With teams being overloaded and leaders being asked to do more with less, it is not always easy to 'Bounce Back' from setbacks, ultimately testing workplace resilience levels. As a result, we have seen from regional norms that workplace sickness levels have increased, and performance levels have dipped.

What is Resilience?

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity, and an essential ingredient for sustainable high performance in organisations. Taking what we have learnt from the latest research in neuroscience, and what we already know about intrinsic motivation we have designed this 90 Day Programme for you to help develop and build your leadership tool kit, so your ‘bounce back’ ability is enhanced.

During the programme we will look at where you already feel resilient and the kind of circumstances that undermines your resilience. We will look at patterns, default behaviour, emotional reactions, expectations and offer practical, do-able tools and techniques that will help you build resilience for yourself and others.

This programme is different from other traditional training methods, as it puts you, the learner, in the driving seat; your goals are your own, and with our support you will build an action plan that will enable you to prioritise aspects of your work and personal life that will result in you feeling happier at work, emotionally stronger, focussed, energised and motivated for the next work challenge ahead.

Course objectives

To inspire leaders to take positive action, and ownership of their own resilience management, so they can:

  • Ensure they are in tip top condition both emotionally & physically when they are at work.

  • Can manage or support resilience levels in others around them, from the learning on their own 90 day journey.


The experience

You are invited to:

  1. Attend a Half Day session, where we will explore the dynamics of resilience, and assess your own resilience levels. From these findings we will then move forward and develop a 'Tool Kit' to increase your 'Bounce Back-Ability' which you will then execute throughout the 90 days.

  2. Attend 2 follow up Half Day Sessions, where the group will develop an action learning set that will be carefully facilitated by an Accredited Resilience Coach. This is where old behaviours are challenged, and you are supported to make a plan for change.

  3. To execute actions, support other members of the group, and receive remote support from the coach, in-between sessions.


Plan For Change

On average, it takes more than 2 months before new resilience enhancing behaviours become automatic — 66 days to be exact. And how long it takes a new habit to form can vary widely depending on the behaviour, the person, and the circumstances. What is positive is that “missing one opportunity to perform positive behaviours does not affect the habit formation process. Building better resilience habits is not an all-or-nothing process.

Through the 90 days we will support you to make a plan for change, support you to tackle obstacles that deplete your resilience and challenge you to reinforce positive behaviours through our carefully facilitated sessions. As a result you will:

  • Improve your awareness around what resilience is, what builds and breaks it and what your default resilience strategies might be. The sessions will then focus on tools and techniques to help you build resilience in yourself and others.

  • Have a better understanding that resilience is a ‘State’ as our ability to cope goes up and down depending upon a whole range of environmental factors: so we will take a check on what else might be going on, who is involved, what actually has happened.

  • Will be able to look at patterns, default behaviour, emotional reactions, and expectations and pay particular attention to what might make things worse in terms of eroding resilience – time and energy spent in being distressed with the distress.

  • Have built a resilience ‘tool kit’ so you will have a lot more to call upon when the going gets rough.


The Resilience Tool Kit

Delegates will be offered processes to support development of their own or others’ resilience in line with the work of Psychologist Kathryn McEwen in 2011 (R@W Sustain 7). They will be encouraged to identify specific behaviours relating to each factor that contribute to the growth or decline of their own resilience, and we will take a measure on what they choose to implement, and how they impact on the speed in which they bounce back from setbacks as a result.

To enhance this offering delegates have the option of taking part in a resilience diagnostic tool, which will offer an accurate diagnostic of their current resilience levels and areas they need to work on to enhance their tool kit. This comes in the format of a 5 page report and will run alongside the material used on this programme. This is not a compulsory element of the programme, but if desired it can be ordered prior to the course for £60 per delegate.

The 3 session dates are:

Monday 16th October 1:30pm - 5pm

Tuesday 7th November 1pm - 4:30pm

Friday 15th December 9am- 1pm
