Event Details

The picturesque river Wensum takes its name from Old English word for ‘winding’; and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.

Join the incredibly knowledgeable guide Carl Chapman, Chairman of the Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists’ Society on a nature walk (approximately 3.5 miles long) through the Wensum Valley to Sparham Pools. We’ll start our walk near the location of the old Lenwade Railway station and follow the Wensum Way on a beautiful spring time walk. This is an excellent place to see waterfowl, dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies, we’ll keep an eye out for amphibians, as well as appreciating the reserve’s wide variety of plant life.

The walking surface is generally good and accessible to most users via farm track and woodland path. However there may be the opportunity to come off the path to see specific points of interest; these areas are grassed and uneven. Please note that there are few amenities along route, however the walk lead will happily direct you towards the nearest accessible amenities.

Walk is approx. 3 miles. A steady pace, with plenty of opportunity for discussion. We recommend that sensible footwear and comfortable clothing be worn.

Places are free but limited, so please book soon to avoid disappointment.
