We would like to invite you to join our 9to 90 Art Club members & volunteers.
Decorative Tiles - in 3 parts - session one - September 5th, session two - September 19th, and session 3 on October 3rd.
Learn how to create beautiful abstract clay tiles decorated with patterns, colours and shapes. We’ll be adding lots of layers to make them look really special. Finally, we’ll glaze them to make them shiny and the colours will pop!
On Friday 19th September, we continue working with Esther Ley on session 2 of creating ceramic tiles. In this session we will roll out clay and use our paper patterns from the first week to transfer onto the clay. We may also add extra colour and texture and some ‘sgraffito’ decoration.
Don’t worry if you didn’t come to wk1 as Esther will have some spare pattern sheets you can use.
When the clay is decorated we’ll stamp it out into clay tiles! Esther will fire them in the kiln to harden them.
in the final session on October 3rd, our tiles will be ready for the final decoration using underglazes to enhance the texture and patterns. When they are finished Esther will show you how to glaze them ready for their last firing in the kiln.
