Event description
Learn how to add content to Wikipedia. Special guest speaker: Rebecca O'Neill, Project Coordinator at Wikimedia Community Ireland

About this Event

Wikipedia is often dismissed by teachers and lecturers as an unreliable source of information. However, as one of the top ten most-visited websites in the world, Wikipedia continues to be widely used by students, and enlists the help of editors from all around the world to ensure the accuracy of its content.

At this free, 2-hour session, Rebecca O'Neill, Project Coordinator at Wikimedia Community Ireland, will discuss:

  • how to get started as a Wikipedia editor
  • how to add content such as text and media files to Wikipedia pages
  • the process by which editors remove 'fake news' and vandalism from the site

Also at the session, Richard Fallis, QUB Subject Librarian, will discuss how students and staff can use Library resources to find high-quality evidence to cite in Wikipedia pages.

The session is open to students and staff from all QUB faculties and schools.
