About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

This is another free walk funded by the OPDC (Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation), We will be walking a stretch of the Grand Union Canal which will very soon be closed to enable new electric cabling alongside the towpath along with improvements to the towpath itself.

We start at Harlesden Station and, after looking at a nearby mosaic, we will walk south venturing a little into Waxlow Road with its past and present industies, past the once huge Acton Power Station and the Grand Junction Arms, and onto the canal. Here we will hear about the long history of the canal and how it was and is used and then we will brave the speeding cyclists to walk to the Old Oak Bridge hopefully spotting moorhens, the occasional moving barge or boat and maybe even a heron. We will look at some plants on the way too. Once there, after a short explore of that area, we will have our optional stop at the café that is part of the Collective for our final chill and chat.

Come and join us. We usually have a mix of those who know the area well and can share their knowledge and those who may have passed through before without lingering but are interested now.

Organized by

Talking & Exploring was set up and is run by Joanna Dudzinska, a qualified tour guide, English teacher and local history enthusiast, to bring people together in order to explore various areas off the beaten tourist trail. The walks are mainly in the West London area, are usually not long, both in distance and time, and are as much about sharing information and perspectives as learning about what you are seeing, and making friends. Through the Ealing Walking, Talking and Exploring Group on Facebook we welcome all, those new to the visited area and those who know it well! Talking and Exploring is on Google Maps, Instagram as @talking_and_exploring and has a Facebook business page as well.
