An 8 week storytelling beginner's course for you to explore & discover your own, natural-born storytelling abilities.
About this event
From sharing the latest piece of gossip,to telling someone about the film you just saw or giving a breakdown of the sports event you watched last night, you tell stories to our friends and your families every day and when you do, you speak with animated passion. These are the seeds of what you witness storytellers do every time they perform on stage, in your classroom or at your family event.
If you have watched a storyteller at work and always wanted to give it a go or, you are a parent or teacher, who’d like to be able to tell stories, or read to children in a more engaging way, if , then join award-winning international storyteller Jan Blake and other participants, as she takes you on a journey on which you will learn the basic skills and tools needed, not only to tell a story, but to tell it well.
DATES: FEB 7, 14, 21,2 8 March 7, 14, 21, 28
During this 8 week course you will work in a group setting with other course participants. Together you will:
- Explore the people, places, rhythm & flow of a story and what you can do to bring your chosen story to life ,
- Give & receive useful feedback along the way
- You will be provided with a workbook for completing tasks,
- Have a one to one session with Jan Blake
- At the end of the 8 week period. you will have the opportunity to tell your chosen story to a small audience comprised of your family & friends.

About Jan Blake:
Jan Blake is one of the world's leading storytellers, who has been performing worldwide for over 35 years. Specialising in stories from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Arab regions, she has a well-earned reputation for dynamic and generous storytelling. Recent highlights include Hay Festival, where she was storyteller in-residence, the Viljandi Harvest Festival in Estonia and TEDx Warsaw.
As well as performing at all the major storytelling festivals both nationally and internationally, she works regularly with the British Council, leads storytelling workshops for emerging storytellers, and gives masterclasses for teachers, brands, and businesses. She also regularly captivates school children with mesmerising stories.
