A Brave New World – an in depth look at the EU Trade Mark reforms
Wed 11 May 2016, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
5.30pm for 6pm start
Prof Graeme Dinwoodie, Oxford University
Simon Malynicz QC, 3 New Square
David Stone, Simmons & Simmons - moderator
AIPPI is pleased to host this event run jointly with Oxford University’s Intellectual Property Research Centre.
Much of the commentary on the recent trade mark reforms has focused on the big ticket items – such as the change in the name of the Office, IP TRANSLATOR and goods in transit. But many of the less obvious reforms may well have a bigger impact – and practitioners need to go back to the original Max Planck study for a full understanding.
Join this panel of experts for a deep dive into the real meat of the reforms, including:
the new exclusions which potentially invalidate a range of non-traditional trade marks;
the new interaction between trade mark law and the Misleading and Comparative Advertising Directive;
new rules on how company names may infringe a trade mark; and
changes to the scope of defences.
This course is directed at all levels of practitioners with an interest in intellectual property and will provide them with an understanding of the issues relating to the EU trade marks reforms.
Attendance is free for current students on the Oxford Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice (2015/16 academic year), to AIPPI UK members, and new applicants for AIPPI UK membership. New membership applications are welcome – please see our website www.aippi.org.uk or contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further details. Junior membership costs £30 and normal membership is £110. The charge for non-members is £25 (including processing fee), payable online at the time of registration.
At the time of registering, if someone else registers on your behalf (e.g. your secretary or PA), please make sure that they book in your name, so that the name of the person who is attending - and wants the CPDs - ends up on the attendee list.
