Finemere Wood is a BBOWT Nature Reserve comprising a magnificent woodland with a rich flora and fauna, sadly affected by HS2 works. It has the thrilling atmosphere of a very old, wild place.
We will explore the rides and the paths, looking for summer butterflies and day-flying moths. We should see some of the woodland specialists such as Purple Hairstreak and Silver-washed Fritillary and with luck, we may find White Admiral or the magnificent Purple Emperor.
I will be bringing a packed lunch to eat on-site. You are welcome to join me and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.
Accessibility & risks: access may be disrupted by HS2 works. Flat, muddy when wet, with some stumps and roots; five short bridges; benches throughout the reserve. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
Meet at the reserve entrance on the Edgcott to Quainton Road.
