The National Trust’s Watlington Hill is a top-quality downland with areas of dense Yew and a rich chalk grassland flora. It supports over 25 butterflies species and offers ‘an Oxfordshire dreamscape’ as you walk to the top of the Hill and discover fine views over the Oxford Plain.
We will explore the hillside for its summer butterflies and day-flying moths. We hope to see Adonis Blue, Chalk Hill Blue and the rare Silver-spotted Skipper, amongst a variety of other wildlife.
I will be bringing a packed lunch to eat on-site. You are welcome to join me and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.
Accessibility & risks: steep, strenuous slopes, rabbit holes and some trip hazards. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
Meet at the National Trust car park. (Parking is free for NT members, otherwise £3 per day).
