About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Whitecross Green Wood is a BBOWT Nature Reserve. The area has been wooded since at least 1600 and, despite conifer plantings in the 1960s, is gradually returning to its former splendour. Its wide rides and sunny glades provide habitats for a rich diversity of wildflowers and an excellent selection of butterflies.

We will explore the wide sunny rides, looking for summer butterflies and day-flying moths. However, we will focus some time on the Elms on the ride edges where we hope to see the elusive White-letter Hairstreak.

Accessibility & risks: mainly flat, grassy rides, bumpy with roots in a few places. Benches. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)

Meet at the reserve car park.
