About this event

Music • Classical

Following the success of her acclaimed album The Words of the Candle, the distinguished Albanian-born British concert violinist Alda Dizdari continues her deeply personal journey through the works of great composers. With each piece, she explores not only the composer’s national identity but also her own unique connection to their music.

The second half of the concert brings the oddysey closer to home — a moving celebration of music which embodies the Albanian spirit. Alda will present works by her father, the renowned Albanian composer Limos Dizdari, whose music includes some of the country’s most beloved film soundtracks and songs. Through these works, Alda will tell the story of Albania — its struggles, its resilience, and its enduring spirit.

At the heart of the evening lies The Words of the Candle, the song that gave its name to her previous album. Here, Alda will take the audience even deeper into the music, history, and drama of Albania, revealing a story of survival, tragedy, and hope — a story which resonates far beyond national borders.

This special concert coincides with Albania’s National Day and promises to be an unforgettable evening. It will offer Albanian audiences in the UK a nostalgic journey into their cultural heritage, while introducing British listeners to a rich musical world which remained hidden for more than half a century under communism.

This event is kindly supported by the Embassy of Albania in the United Kingdom.
