Event description

Description

You are invited to share in an exploration of the phenomenon of contemporary druidry at the Autumn Equinox 2017.
Be you poet, healer, musician, spiritual seeker or
lover of nature and all things magical, you are welcome!

I call upon the spirit of autumn, the spirit of water;
the ebb and flow of emotion, of open seas
and running stream and cleansing rain; spirit
of the evening sun, of twilight and of autumn.

These words began the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Paralympics, calling the four directions, the ritual opening of druid ceremony. How many knew they had been composed by members of the British Druid Order?

Many believe that the druids died out with the Romans. However druidry is alive and well. What is the character of the initiation path, ceremonies and practices of contemporary druids? Why do people feel drawn to experience the roots of British culture and the Spirit of this land?

Autumn 2017 marks the 300th anniversary of the founding of the modern druid movement with the formation of the Druid Order. From this grew, in 1964, the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Today contemporary Druidry is one of the fastest growing movements in Western society.

Contributors include:

Annette Armstrong - druid, poet and professional storyteller,

Penny Billington - druid author, speaker, celebrant and leading member of OBOD

Marion Briggs - organiser of Earthstars Saced Space, artist and ovate member of OBOD

David Loxley - Chief of The Druid Order

John Matthews - author and researcher in Arthurian Legends and Grail Studies

Chris Street - discoverer of the London Earthstar, druid member of OBOD and leader of the Earthstars Grove

In the evening there will be an Eisteddfod with music, poetry and story telling. All welcome.
