A day of appreciation and celebration of the scholarship of our dear friend and colleague Gareth Williams.

About this Event

Join friends and colleagues for a day of appreciation and celebration of the scholarship of Gareth Williams. Gareth’s work spanned theory, research and community interventions in three principal areas: chronic illness and disability; health inequalities; and health and health care in South Wales. Speakers representing each of these will address the gathering. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Graham Scambler, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, UCL
  • Distinguished Professor Jennie Popay, Professor of Sociology & Public Health, Lancaster University
  • Professor Jon Gabe, Professor of Sociology at Royal Holloway University of London
  • Professor Ian Jones, Director of WISERD at Cardiff University
  • Neil McKeganey, Co-Director of the Centre for Substance Use Research (CSUR)
  • Professor Lee Monaghan, Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Limerick
  • Professor Kat Smith, Professor of Public Health Policy at the University of Edinburgh;
  • Professor Phil Brown, University Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Health Sciences; Director, Social Science Environmental Health Research Institute, Northeastern University
  • Professor Huw Beynon, Former Head of School at Cardiff University School of Social Sciences)
  • Professor Kevin Morgan, Professor of Governance and Development at Cardiff University School of Geography and Planning
  • Dr Chris Roberts, Research Lead, Health and Social Services analytical team, Welsh Government

There will be time for discussion and time too for informal interaction over refreshments.

A limited number of modest travel bursaries will be provided for PhD students and others on low income.
